Carey was born on April 30, 2003, in Barnet, London, England. She is the daughter of Sarah MacDonnell. Right from childhood, she had an interest in acting, dancing, and singing. Her grandmother worked as a wardrobe mistress at the local theatre and due to this, she often go with her to watch live performances.
Carey got a chance to perform in her first-ever professional show at the age of six and the show was a pantomime version of Aladdin.
Emily Carey Career
Carey made her professional theatre debut at the age of nine, in Shrek The Musical at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane leading straight into Marta Von Trapp in The Sound of Music at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, directed by Rachel Kavanaugh. The production was nominated for “Best Musical Revival” at the 2014 Olivier Awards, and later, Carey reprised her role with a live performance at the Olivier Awards Ceremony at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
In 2014, when Carey was 11 years old, she was starred in the semi-regular role of Grace Beauchamp in BBC’s flagship Saturday night drama “Casualty”, she appeared in 41 episodes across 5 seasons until 2021. That same year, she was featured as “Mini Idina” in the music video for Idina Menzel and Michael Buble’s single hit, Baby It’s Cold Outside. Carey’s other television credits include the series regular role of Mary Conan Doyle in the 10 Part drama ‘Houdini & Doyle’ which aired in the spring of 2016 and the role of Bea in Turn Up Charlie for Netflix.
In 2017, Carey made her big-screen debut as Young Diana in the Warner Brothers blockbuster movie ‘Wonder Woman’. Carey has begun to carve a niche as a young action hero moving swiftly into the role of Young Lara Croft in the ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot directed by Roar Uthang which was released in March 2018.
Carey played the title role of Anastasia in Anastasia: Once Upon a Time film for Netflix. She will portray Teen Wendy in the screenplay adaption of Laurie Fox’s novel The Lost Girls. In 2019, she was signed to IMG Models.
In 2020, 10 part series ‘Get Even’ on Netflix Worldwide was released and Carey played series regular Mika Cavanaugh. It was announced on July 6, 2021, that Carey will be joining the cast of HBO’s Game Of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.
Carey’s other film roles which were released in 2021 include Anne Frank in the animated feature film ‘Where Is Anne Frank?’ Directed by Ari Folman and Teenage Wendy Darling in ‘The Lost Girls’ directed by Livia De Paolis. She will be appearing in the 2022 movie, House of Dragon.
