Ella Rumpf was born on February 4, 1995, in Paris, France. She grew up in Zurich, Switzerland. Her father is a Psychotherapist while her mother is a Lecturer.
Ella attended the Steiner school and she first acted at the age of 14. She later attended the Giles Foreman Center for Acting in London from 2013–2015 after completing her studies at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in 2013.

Ella had her first taste of acting by winning the lead role in Romeo and Juliet at the age of 14. At the age of 16, she appeared in her debut film titled Summer Outside in 2011 directed by FriederikeJehn. In 2014, she won the role of Ali in the multi-award-winning feature film War (Krieg), by Simon Jaquemet and she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Swiss Film Awards in 2015. She shaved her head for the role.
Ella featured alongside Garance Marillier in Raw (2016) and in 2017, she played the lead role in Tiger Girl and also a supporting role in The Divine Order (Die göttlicheOrdnung). In 2020, Ellaappeared in the HBO television series Tokyo Vice, to be directed by Michael Mann and written by J.T. Rogers.
