Warner was born on October 27, 1986, in Paddington, New South Wales, Australia. His father, Howard Warner, worked in a heavy machinery shop and his mother, Lorraine Warner, is a nurse. Warner has a brother by the name Stephen Warner.

This was in an ODI against South Africa in Hobart on January 18, 2009, and he became the first cricketer in 132 years to be selected for the national team without any local experience.
