Warner was born on October 27, 1986, in Paddington, New South Wales, Australia. His father, Howard Warner, worked in a heavy machinery shop and his mother, Lorraine Warner, is a nurse. Warner has a brother by the name Stephen Warner.
Warner studied at Matraville Public School and also Randwick Boys High School.

Warner began his career as a cricketer when he was just a child. He later became a member of the Sydney Coastal Cricket Club under 8 squads. Following that, he began playing cricket as a right-handed batsman until he was well established as a renowned left-handed batsman.
Warner made his international debut at the age of 20. This was in an ODI against South Africa in Hobart on January 18, 2009, and he became the first cricketer in 132 years to be selected for the national team without any local experience. That same year, he became the second batsman to make the most ODI hundreds.
Warner made his T20 debut in Melbourne against South Africa on January 11, 2011, and in December 1, 2011, he also made his Test debut against New Zealand in Brisbane.
