Amanda Drew was born on December 21, 1969, in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. She is from a family of four children. Her father was a vicar while her mother was a nurse. When her parents relocated to Leicestershire for work, Drew was educated at Beauchamp College in Oadby and there, she joined a youth theatre, playing Charity in Sweet Charity. She later attended King’s School, Ottery St. Mary and this was when her family moved to Devon.
Drew enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London and graduated in 1992 at the age of 23. Having made a name for her on the West End and at the Royal Court Theatre with various productions, she later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2001 when she was 32.
